| | | | | At the end of each training session - ask yourself these three questions :
1. Is your dog progressing in his learning?...
| | |
| | | | | Consistent Repetition is the Key to Dog Training. You need to go over each command over and over again, until your dog learns. | | |
| | | | | If your dog walks ahead when you try to teach him to heel, try walking with him in circles. | | |
| | | | | Before you start training the dog, give him a couple of minutes to "unwind". Enable him to run , freely if possible, and de-stress. He will work much better after spending some energy, especially if you live in an apartment. | | |
| | | | | Some dog trainers are against giving food as affirmation for a command well done. But there is no harm in giving a ..... | | |
| | | | | Try to maintain a training routine - if possible, set a regular hour in the day, in which you go for a walk and practice. | | |
| | | | | A good idea will be to give your dog his food after a training session. Don't feed him and then take him to training, since a dog with a full belly is a bit slower then one that hasn't eaten. | | |
| | | | | You don't want to raise an angry, supressed animal in your home. Make sure your dog appreciates you and works with you lovingly, and is not driven by fear. | | |
| | | | | Don't give your dog two commands at a time, Don't give him conflictual commands. Work on each command slowly and patiently during a training session. Make sure your dog follows you and understands your communication. | | |
| | | | | It is better to reward good behavior then to punish the dog on bad behavior. rewards keep the dog happy to work with you, while punishments create a suppressed dog rather then a happy - reliable dog. | | |
| | | | | Make your commands short, clear, well defined, you can try to use sharp sounds like ss or shsh, ..... | | |
| | | | | Your dog always looks at you and learns. never allow him to do what you won't allow regularly. Don't allow him to climb on to bed if normally.... | | |
| | | | | Before we even start training a dog, make sure he is well fed, has fresh water at all times, takes as many walks as he needs, sees a vet regularly.... | | |
| | | | | Teach your dog to come when you call, by being VERY happy when he comes to you. clap your hands, praise him, give him a treat - whatever works for you.... | | |
| | | | | If you intend to punish the dog - you go over to him. A smart move would be to teach your dog he always wants to come over when you call. | | |
| | | | | When your dogs acts in a manner you do not wish to inforce, try to ignore him, or just say "NO!". | | |
| | | | | When you say "NO", make sure you never ever change your mind. if you think you may change your mind, don't start this battle in the first place.... | | |
| | | | | When you start training your dog, you start a relationship with him. Pay attention to your dog waiting for you to guide him, and make sure you give good affirmations .... | | |
| | | | | First thing you need to teach your dog, would be to respond when you call his name. Call him, and teach him to respond. Affirm his action when he does.
